Author's notes:

God Log, day 232, of the 53,621st year of my reign

One of my favourite duties as king is going out among my many
subjects to receive the adulation I am due. That's how I met
Alcamene, Dianna, and Menalaus and so many others. Normally I just
visit my temples, to receive worship from those there and to look
over likely prospects, but today I'm in the mood for something
different. I want a bit of a change from the norm. Today, I shall
grace the citizens of Greece with my presence in the form of a Cloud.

Zeus.

God Log, day 232, of the 53,621st year of my reign
2nd hour after sunrise

I was just hovering over a lovely river while travelling towards
Corinth when I spotted a young man out in the middle of nowhere. I
zipped over to where he was as quickly as possible, wanting to see
whether what I suspected about the young man was really true. And I
have been able to confirm my suspicions, the young man is a pure
soul! I haven't seen one of those in over a thousand years.

I'm going to follow him around for awhile to see if I can get an
idea of what he's like. I'm sure he won't suspect anything, since I
am a cloud right now.

Zeus.

God Log, day 232, of the 53,621st year of my reign
4.5 hours after sunrise

I've been following the pure soul for a little over 2 hours. It's
been challenging since the path he and the women are travelling on
is a very round about one. The more I watch this young man, the more
interested I am in him. He's unique, even for a pure soul. I find
myself growing more and more curious about him. The thing I wonder
the most about him is why he chooses to travel with two women who
constantly criticize him. Sure, the women are very attractive,
enough so they put a gleam on my silver lining, but it still has me
wondering.

Another thing that has raised my curiosity is the fact that he's
marked as one of Ares' followers. I don't think I have ever heard of
a pure soul following Ares before.

Zeus.

God Log, day 232, of the 53,621st year of my reign
5 hours after sunrise

I think I just scared the pure soul when I glared at him. But, it's
just that his song reminded me of my grandson Strife and how I
haven't been able to find a way to get Hades to release him... yet.
To be thwarted by my most hated brother and unable to bring back my
favourite grandson who does such a great job in keeping the rest of
the Pantheon distracted with his antics. Leaving me free to
orchestrate my schemes without interference ... it's enough to throw
me into a rage. And to be suddenly reminded of my failure to get my
favourite grandson back made me glare at the pure soul I've been
watching. For which I'm sorry. But, considering I'm currently a
cloud, I'm sure he really didn't notice the glare.

Zeus.

God Log, day 232, of the 53,621st year of my reign
8 hours after sunrise

It just got hotter here. A lot hotter. I'll have to reprimand Apollo
over this sudden increase of temperature, he knows full well that
he's supposed to warn me about these things.

It has had a beneficial side effect though, so the reprimand won't
be as harsh as it could have been. The sudden heat has caused the
pure soul to remove that clunky, mismatched set of armour he was
wearing and now the young man is taking off his shirt.

Oh my! He's very attractive without all those layers on. Very
attractive indeed. The way his skin is glistening underneath the
sun's hot rays, showing off his lean muscles, well it certainly has
me sitting up and paying attention! The way he looks, the stamina
he's shown so far today and the way his pure soul shines out from
him, makes me want to throw him over my shoulder and take him back
to my hide-away. In fact...

There's been a change of plans, Ares is rushing towards here and he
looks furious. It's reminded me that I have something very important
I have to do right away on Olympus.

Zeus.

God Log, day 232, of the 53,621st year of my reign
sunset

I just petitioned Hades again, asking him to return Strife to life
and he said no. He flat out refuses to. I got into his face and
shoved him around and reminded him that I'm the King of the Gods and
he said "look, I'm not the one who made the rules. In order to
return a God or Goddess to life, I need proof that his or her
presence is vital on Olympus. If you can get me proof that Strife's
absence is having detrimental effects to every house on Olympus,
I'll be able to release him. You don't even have to bring the proof
to me, for Cronus' sake! All you have to do is make a list and send
it to me. Now, get out of my kingdom before I sick Cerebus on you."

Is that any way to talk to the King of the Gods I tell you? No it
isn't! And the nerve of it, telling me to make a list and send it to
him! Does he think I have nothing to do with my time besides making
a list of how Strife's absence effects the Olympian houses? Well, he
has another think coming! I'll force him to give me Strife back,
after all I am king of the Gods, he has to listen to me!

Zeus.
