Prologue: Planning For The Year
What the hell does the school want with us?" Ares growled as he materialized at the ranch. He was tired, dirty, irritated and he had the wars in Cambodia. He didn't have time for--- No. That attitude had caused Last Year's tragedy. Ares sighed and walked into the house and up to his attic bedroom. He walked to the attached bath and stepped under the shower after stripping.
All the blood and dirt was washing away down the drain but he was still feeling the grunge from the battlefield. His job was still so very hard but at least he wasn't alone this time. After the shower, he walked down to the kitchen where lunch was being put on the table. His mother---his mortal mother, smiled at him gently as he sat and took a bite of the sandwich she placed in front of him. Gods above and below he was tired. He ate then stood changing his appearance to the 16 year old he was supposed to be and then walked out to where his Harley was sitting. He got on it and rode to school where he found the others waiting.
"Hey, Ar," Aphrodite said as he got off the bike. The group made their way into the school where the Principal was waiting. Hades walked in with Cerberus but the dog was not harnessed right now. In his hands he held paperwork on the students who had died last year. Hades would know everything that led up to that incident from the students' who's done its Point of View.
"Lord Dis?" the Principal asked. Hades sat at the long table where the staff was lined up on one side and they were on the other. Ares sat at one end and the Principal at the other.
"I can tell you what caused it and I can tell you how to stop it. But I can't make you do what needs to be done."
"What does need to be done?" the Principal asked. Hades sighed.
"All groups that make people dress, act and look the same need to be removed. You noticed it with us that we were all in the same group and yet not one of us dresses as the others do. We have different hobbies, different styles. This looking alike and making fun of those who don't look like you has got to stop. If it doesn't, there will be more things happening like this."
"That was all that caused it?" the coach asked derisively. The growl from Ares had him stopping and thinking about that statement.
"Yes," Hades said coldly. "That crap of making them feel they would never be good enough because in most cases they were too poor to match the Diamonds in dress style. I am the richest person in this room, but no one knows it by how I dress. I am the God of Wealth as well as the God of Life and Death. No one in this room has more money than I do. Not even the pope on his throne as all that gold comes from Under the ground."
"You don't act like it," the coach said. Hades laughed then.
"And that is exactly the point," Ares said. "You don't know who we are and what we have simply by how we dress or act. We are individuals. We all work towards the same end but we are not all clones of one another. And that is why we can do so much good. We each see things a different way so we can contribute different ideas."
"You know there will still be cliques," the principal said. Ares nodded.
"Take their power away. Don't give them special treatment because of who they are or what their group is called. Heph and Dite refused to make a catholic, religious symbol in school last year and they took failing grades for that class. Now, that is illegal as well as discriminatory but the point is, they took the marks and they couldn't get special treatment because their clique as you put it, was not the Diamonds.
"Oh." The principal said softly.
Ares nodded and they sat to plan things and the Olympians helped by explaining that their differences made them special. Not having a lemming mentality. Across town, in several houses that had all been sold to people in the same corporation, those people were moving in. All were wearing tattoos of Swastikas. All had bumper stickers that proclaimed White Power or Whit Means Right. They laughed and joked as they unpacked about soon owning this town. They had no idea what was waiting for them there.
1: First Day
Ares pulled up outside the school on his motorcycle. It was the first day of classes for his Junior Year. It proved to be---interesting
"Out of our Way, Niggers," a strident voice demanded. Ares turned and saw a group of people shoving their way through a cluster if African American students. He snarled to himself and stalked over, pushing the group back slightly with his power.
"You're obviously new here," the young seeming God of War said. "So, it's understandable that you do not know the rules around this place. Rule number 1: Wait your turn."
"But then the lesser species will get all the good books," one of the group whined. Ares felt his power flare in his eyes as his temper frayed.
"Rule Number 2," he hissed. "We do not speak of anyone in his school in derogatory terms. If you wanted new textbooks, you should have gotten here earlier like the announcement said to. I will warn you one time. Go. Sit. Down. And. Wait. Your. Turn."
"What's rule 3?" A girl in the group asked. Ares smiled darkly before he answered.
"Don't. Piss. Me. Off," he said as he walked away. He stayed between the group and the other kids until everyone ahead of them got their books. When he got to the table, he warned the teachers selling the books about the group and picked up his own which, were a special order. Written in Greek. That was the only thing he'd asked for the help he and the others had given. He asked for books in his native language, Hades asked for permission to keep his dog with him. What they asked for in return for the help they gave were small, simple things. Things the teachers were glad to get for them for their help. Ares watched after the group had gotten their books before he went to his group. They were waiting under their tree.
"There are a group of White Supremacists in school this year," Ares told them. "I could feel their hate and aggression without touching any of them. We'll need to watch them." His family nodded and Ares cracked his books open looking at the words in Greek, easier to read then some of the English written books. He smirked at some things on the wars. He knew that wasn't what happened.
"That'll have to be corrected," Ares said softly. Very soon I think. The? Can we work on getting the truth in these books you think?" "I'll get to work on that, Ar," she said as she watched him. She knew why he wanted the books in Greek. She knew Ar was just like that. Some things he preferred in his native language. His Original Native Language. Se looked over and saw the group Ares had mentioned and she felt her skin crawl.
"That group scares me, Ar," she said. Ares nodded.
"I feel their hate and aggression but no one can be banned from a public school. However, as we are the rule enforcers, we can make sure they adhere to the rules."
"What do we do if they don't follow the rules?" Apollo asked. Ares grinned like a wolf.
"We deal with it, God Style."
