Laughter and Food Fights (# 3 in The Laughter Series)
Author: Kate R.
Summary: Hera starts it this time
Hera smiled as everyone came into the meeting room. This time, Strife
was checked for any projectiles on his person. Hera was amused. As amused
as she had been when Hades had started the mud fight and was checked for mud
pies on the way in to the next meeting. Everyone had learned not to turn
their backs on either mischief or death. Hera smiled to herself and winked
at Athena as they entered the room. This meeting, this dinner, proved to be
fun if she could time it right. This time, Zeus was getting it first. Hera
had a spoonful of custard with his name on it.
As everyone sat down, Hera waited for Zeus to open the meeting. It
started the same with pompus attitudes. Poseidon was the one being long
winded tonight and everyone played with their food while they listened to
him. What was his problem? Did he just want attention? Hera smiled as she
decided three hours into the meeting to shake it up. Very slowly, she lifted
a piece of bread in her hand. Across from her, Athena did the same. They
watched and waited for just the right moment, which came when Poseidon opened
his mouth again. Athena threw her bread and it landed just where she wanted
it too. In Poseidon's mouth.
"Yes!" she hissed to herself.
"Finally, someone shut him up," came form Hades who looked about to fall
asleep. Hera smiled at him before she threw her bread at Zeus.
Unfortunately, Zeus chose that moment to yank Hades forward so the bread hit
him. He looked at Hera willing to let it go though. He was tired this
evening. Hera smiled apologetically. It had been decided earlier they'd try
to leave him out of this. He really was tired. Hera sighed as she picked up
a grape and tossed it at Artemis. The Goddess of the Hunt looked around the
table and spied a likely suspect. She grabbed a piece of cake and threw it
at Strife. Strife stared at her in shock before grabbing a cup of juice and
throwing it back.
Everyone looked to the head table at Zeus' bellow as he was wearing
custard on his face. Zeus looked at Hera, smiling demurely at him, and threw
jelly at her. Hera got that in the face. She threw something back and got a
strange reaction. How had she hit Hades again? The look he gave her was one
that promised retribution. He grabbed a bowl of pudding and threw it across
the table nailing her and Artemis as well as getting Athena and Aphrodite
with splatter. Hera could tell he was going to play now. And the food fight
was on.
Food was flying fast and furious across the tables. Poseidon got it in
the face from Joxer with vegetables. Bliss threw a plate of baby food
hitting his Grandpa Hephy who threw something at Cupid, who in turn tossed
something at Ares. Ares gave a feral grin and dumped a tureen of soup over
Eris' head. She squawked at her brother and smashed a pie in his face. By
now everyone was throwing food and laughing. Hades threw some things as he
saw targets but Hera knew he wasn't really into it tonight. Something was
wrong that needed to be looked into but he was playing along tonight so it
would wait until later.
Hera smiled as Poseidon pitched a plate of food at Hestia and hit but
then everyone got hit when Hestia threw a wave of fruit punch. It was
decided then that she won.
As they cleaned up, Hera saw Hades sigh quietly as he left. He left
alone tonight so she was curious as to why. He'd also left a ring on the
table. Hera stared in shock. Hades had dissolved his marriage? Had broken
a rule? Why?
"Because I want her to be happy," came back to Hera. She knew she would
not catch Hades. She could see that. But mark her, this conversation was
not over.
